Spend an afternoon in downtown Douglas with your sweetheart this Valentine's weekend and find out why they call the Saugatuck/Douglas area the "Art Coast" of Michigan.
On February 13–14, 2021, six fine art galleries along Center Street are hosting a Winter Break Gallery Stroll from noon to 4 p.m. each day. This two-day art event is free and open to the public. Discover a thriving art scene and distinctive collections in every medium curated by local and national artists.
From paintings and sculptures to art glass and pottery, the galleries and artist studios will present special exhibitions during the Winter Break Gallery Stroll. Admire their latest art installations and shop the beautiful and diverse works. You may just find a creative treasure to take home! Galleries also will provide "to-go" refreshments for you to enjoy as you stroll between gallery visits.
Art has been part of the culture of the Saugatuck/Douglas area for more than a century. The area's creative roots date back 100 years to when The Art Institute of Chicago established its Ox-Bow School here to inspire and educate genuine artists. Gallery strolls such as this have become an Art Coast tradition, and the picturesque downtown districts provide a charming backdrop as you leisurely wander from one unique gallery to the next. While you're visiting for the art, be sure to patronize other fine shops and restaurants to complete your tour.
