Discover Douglas Michigan this September

For more than century, the Saugatuck-Douglas duo has been one of the Midwest’s favorite locations to escape the stress and work of daily life. Knowing how to relax, have fun, and unwind is something every resident knows well—and we’re good teachers, too. Learn everything you can about our laid-back beach town on the other side of the Kalamazoo River by taking your own tour of downtown Douglas and its attractions. You’ll find great shops, excellent galleries, and delicious eateries for your enjoyment all while you stroll down the sidewalk, basking in the last few weeks we have of the summer weather.

The downtown streets of Douglas host nine world-class galleries in a variety of art forms that allow you to shop art pieces and meet the region’s most talented artists. The galleries are Lafontsee, Button, Leben Art, Mr. Miler’s, Water Street Gallery, Mixed Media, Zahnow Photography, Petter Wine Gallery, and The Palette. This year’s Art on Center Gallery Stroll event is held on August 19th and September 9th from 6-8PM. Enjoy entertainment at all galleries that are participating while meeting the artists. Each gallery will be showcasing work with both indoor and outdoor exhibits for you to shop for gifts or just enjoy viewing the handmade creations of locals; and a warm evening stroll on Center Street before the weather gets chilly is a great way to finish the summer.

Also in September, Water Street Gallery hosts a studio show and sale featuring area landscapes by local artist Christopher Strunk. The sale will be held September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from Noon to 5PM. Visit the online exhibit here to view a sample of Strunk’s beautiful paintings.

The Petter Wine Gallery is a must-see stop with its 12,000 square foot fine art gallery that had its origins in the 1930s. Today, the gallery displays an eclectic collection of fine paintings, sculptures, glass, and more. You can also browse and purchase wine from the wine shop or just enjoy a taste from the small plates bar.
